Dove Harbor desires to use donations of material items to support the families that benefit from the program, as well as to support the program overall. The ministry has a prioritization list of how material donations are processed; it is available when donations are dropped off or as requested. In an effort for each of you to help us be excellent stewards of the material gifts provided, an outline is listed below of what items can and cannot be accepted. In multiple places the directive is given to call our office regarding specific items; this is to ensure that the items can be used, before you put the energy into bringing it here. Our telephone number is (765) 642-1853, 8:30am-noon and 1-4:30pm, Monday-Friday.
We accept women’s and children’s clothing and shoes. Please ensure that clothing is free of holes, stains, pet hair and odors (smoke, mildew, etc.)
Baby furniture – please call the office if you have baby items to donate (bouncy seats, strollers, bath tubs, swings, etc.) The need for these items is typically low, but we can assess the current need if you contact us.
Stuffed animals – we only accept stuffed animals if new, with tags intact.
Please call our office if you have furniture to donate.
All furniture should be in good repair, free of pet hair and odors.
Appliances & Electronics
Large items such as refrigerators, washers, dryers, stoves, etc. Please call the office if you have appliances to donate.
We do accept, in good, working order, radios, alarms clocks, CD players, VHS and DVD players, microwaves, crockpots, coffee makers, etc.
Kitchen & Household items
Kitchen items such as pots & pans, baking sheets, cookware, utensils, dishes, dish towels, are accepted.
Household items such as towels, sheets, shower curtains, trash cans are also accepted.
Non-perishable items are accepted (please confirm items are not outdated at time of donation).
Perishable food – please call ahead to ask if it can be accepted and used.
Vehicles, yard equipment
Please call ahead for these types of items. Dove Harbor does have policies in place to accept donations of working vehicles. Vehicles are passed on to families in the program who do not already have a vehicle, and are in good standing in the program. Please contact us for more information on this process.
Items for new families moving into Dove Harbor
Each room that is set up for a new family is lovingly filled with new bedding (sheets, pillow, blanket), new towel sets, toiletries, cleaning supplies and some food items. If you would be interested in helping to provide a “room kit” for this purpose, please contact the Dove Harbor office to get a full list of needed items.
Items Dove Harbor does not accept:
Used stuffed animals
Items that are broken or in disrepair
If you have any questions about a specific item that you would like to donate, but it is not listed above, please contact our office (765) 642-1853, during office hours 8:30am-noon and 1-4:30pm, Monday-Friday. We are deeply grateful for your donation of material items to the Dove Harbor program. Thank you for taking time to read through these guidelines, as it helps the staff and volunteers who process the donations to be excellent stewards of the gift. Through your donations, the program is able to function in a more financially-stable way, and the families in shelter and in the Graduate Aftercare Program can continue to build the material resources they need for stable, safe living. Thank you for being our partner in ministry through your donations!
